How to use Windows Live Messenger
You have successfully installed the program Windows Live Messenger on your computer. How to start using the program and comprehend the main principles of its work? In this article we'll try to describe the main program operations.
1. How to enter Messenger?
You should launch the program by double clicking the program shortcut on the desktop. You'll see the program window:
In order to enter the program you should enter your personal Windows Live ID and password. If you don't have Windows Live ID, you can create it right in this window by choosing "Sign up":
In the new window that opened, you should enter your data – e-mail address, password, first and last names, country of residence, sex and your birth date. Then you should enter the confirmation password and you can use the program.
2. How to choose the status without entering the program?
In the main window of the program you can choose the status you want to connect with. In order to do this you have to choose "Sign in as":
You can choose the status with that you want to connect from the list.
The status "Available" means that all your contacts will see you online as soon as you connect.
Choosing the status "Away", you inform your friends that you're online but will be away from the computer.
The status "Busy" informs your friends that you're connected but don't want to be disturbed.
The status "Appear offline" means that any of your friends will see that you're online.
Having chosen the wanted status, enter your personal Windows Live ID, password and click the button "Sign in" in order to enter the program.
3. How to add friends in Windows Live Messenger?
In order to start communication, you should add friends. You can do this directly from the main window of the program. In order to add somebody to your friends, you should click the button "Add" in the upper right corner.
In the appeared menu you should choose "Add a friend".
The newly opened window offers you to enter the e-mail address of your friend. Here you can find and add the users from other services.
You can enter the cell phone number of your friend, as well as choose the region of residence. On entering the e-mail address, click "Next".
With the next step you can add the friend to the category "Favourite" if you want to find out foremost the events from his life. For this purpose, check the box next to the wanted contact and click "Next".
Your friend has been added, you can communicate now.
4. How to change my status picture?
You can adjust the program look according to your wish; for example, change the status picture or the whole theme. In order to set the status picture, you should choose the tab "Tools" in the main window.
Then, choose the item "Change your picture" in this tab.
In the new window choose the picture according to your desire and click "OK"
Apart from the offered standard list you can download your pictures by clicking the button "Browse" and set the path to a wanted picture or make a picture with webcam using the button "From webcam…"
5. How to change the existing program theme?
In order to change the existing theme of the program, go to the main window. In the tab "Tools" you should choose the item "Change your theme…"
In the new opened window choose the picture you like the best. Check it and click "Apply". If you like this theme, click "OK". The button "Browse" enables you to download your pictures instead of standard themes and use them as the theme you've chosen.
Here you go! Your theme has been changed!
6. How to create a group of contacts?
If you have many contacts that you want to combine in one general group or just create your own group of contacts by a criterion, use the tab "Contacts". In the new window choose the item "Create a group"
In the new window enter the name of the group, e.g. "My Group" and click "Next".
The program automatically offers to invite the friends from your contact list to the group you've created. Choose the contacts for communication and click "Next".
When your friends agree to accept your invitation, they will appear in the group you've created.
